Right then, welcome to my blog. This is where you will find updates about what I am up to and a large selection of published articles, blogs and videos.
Also, I set up a youtube channel where I post all my videos. Be sure to subscribe to that too http://www.youtube.com/user/TheDawnporter
For those of you that don’t know who I am, my name is Dawn Porter. I am a 33 yr old broadcast and print journalist from the UK. I have made around 13 documentaries about all sorts of things such like Polygamy, childbirth, Geisha and the movie Dirty Dancing, to name but a few. They have aired on the BBC, Channel 4, ITV, Sky and FIVE in the UK. You can watch all of these by just putting my name into Youtube. They are all there.
I also recently worked with Derren Brown and acted as his trusty stooge in a program about luck. He is amazing and that gig was an utter privilege.
Right now I am writing the first in a series of two novels called, Renee and Flo. The books will start the girls off at age 15, and by the end of the second they will be 18. The story is of an intense female friendship and is very loosely based on my own childhood. Book One will be out in the spring of 2013, and will be published by Hot Key Books.
I am VERY excited about them.
I’ve also appeared in lots of other TV shows on various channels and some of my docs have aired in the US on TLC and We TV. I am author of saucy memoir Diaries of an Internet Lover and have written for various press in the UK including The Sunday Times, Cosmopolitan, Stylist Magazine, Company Magazine and many more.
Right now you might see me pop up in the ad breaks on Channel 4. I just filmed a series of 6 episodic ads for Andrex Washlets. And although I say the word moist way too many times to be acceptable, making the ads was something very new for me and if I am honest, totally hilarious.
I live in London but spend a lot of time in LA and I travel a lot. You may have seen me dragging two huge pink suitcases with broken wheels and a Siamese cat (Lilu) in a box through international airports? I feel like that has been me too many times to count (I take my cat with me whenever possible). At some point I will get new suitcases, the cat, however, has a few years left in her yet.
I live with my fiancé, Chris, the Siamese bombshell, and our adorable rescue dog, Potato.
If you do know who I am you are probably aware of my inclination to be inappropriate. I can’t defend myself here unfortunately I am inappropriate, but hopefully never offensive – at least I never mean to be.
The Dawn Report is a special place for me because it’s all mine. There are no editors or producers telling me to shhh and the only person to read a post before I send it to the masses is me. When you work in TV and print journalism this is very exciting.
I don’t want to be too specific with the site, it really is everything to do with my life. Sometimes I might just tell you a funny story, other times I might need to rant about a bigger issue. It will hopefully be a good mix. Also, I will tell you little stories from my life, like my LA story which is a continuous series of ups and downs.
It’s a working process – this site, and of course my life. Be sure to bookmark the page now and keep popping back, it will change all the time.
Thanks for reading!
Dawn x

I’ve just noticed that if we open up one of your articles (as a PDF) then chose to close it it drops you right out of the blog. Then you have to find your way back on again. Perhaps if you can set this to ‘open in new window’ people are less likely to drop off the blog. Hope that helps! (Feel free to delete this when you’ve read it) Claire x
I’ve just checked on my blog. You just go into the link and change ‘target’ to open in new window.
Don’t want to go all wanky-copy-editor on you but it’s “work in progress” rather than “working progress”.
Loving the blog though, nice to have somewhere to find all your stuff
love the new site, its super dreamy – very nice to hear all about your antics

Having followed your careers for 3 years i am so pleased not only to read your weekly stylist columns but your own blog now too! Love your honesty and intelligence which comes through in your work. Will you ever release a dvd of your bbc doc series? X
Imagine the scene, after a long, hot, draining day at the office (just to drive my point home – today I got to pick up a clients dry cleaning, which was a tube ride away!?! Is it the 50′s?) I walk up to the slightly manic looking but friendly man outside Liverpool St and he hands me my new favourite mag, Stylist. I get on to the train eager to read your witty titbits for the week, and bombshell… you’re cutting me off! Not cool Dawn, not cool! I think you need to explain yourself Missy, was it something I did?! A x

Love your programs and thought your article about losing your mum was very poignant and close to my heart as I too lost my mum at 6. Love ur new website. Pity u havent got a dog to set on ur grumpy postman. Have fun doing up ur new home. x
Here in Australia, just saw your Extreme Wife documentary tonight – wow, so intriguing and really unusual subject matter. I was hooked! I just had to find how to contact you. I hope they show the rest of your docs soon!
What a great way to get through my insomnia. Just watched your polygamist ( and to copybot, my apologies in advance for any spelling mistakes) episode and loved it. Over here in oz they showed it way to late and now I can’t talk to my friends about my fav new show because they are lame and have the awful ability to sleep, selfish, I know. When are you coming to turn our countrys pockets inside out and expose something we are hiding. I am hooked. Lets hope we see more of u.
Also watched your doco on polygamy last night loved the raw honesty and the topic. Like Beth was up way past my bed time watching it. I caught a bit of the weight loss one you did aswell a while ago too. Thouroughly enjoyed that aswell. Have been searching all morning at work for your dvd. I gather you havent released one. I would definitely buy it if you did. Good to see a young woman who is not afraid to push boundaries! It made for very interesting viewing i must say
Great work and keep it up! All the way from Aus
Beth, I too have npo one to discuss the show with as everyone went to bed. I watched it last night here in Australia and found it fascinatingt, Last week we had the Geisha episode – fan-bloody-tastic! Cant wait for more Dawn !
Oh my typing.. woops!
Hi Dawn. I’m really enjoying the Extreme Wife series and especially the polygamy one last night. I think you’re a talented journalist! I’d love to meet you one day if you’re ever in Sydney. Best wishes.
Hey Dawn,
I think you’re fantastic, we were lucky enough to have some of your documentaries shown in Australia. My Partner and I loved watching every episode and were drawn right in with whatever topic the show was about! I hope you continue to make documentaries because you certainly make them very interesting!
So great that people in Australia are finally getting to know about the fabulous Dawn Porter! We’ve been loving her for ages and were nicely surprised that the tv shows were aired here (better late than never). Congratulations Dawn on your world conquest Down Under.
Woooo GUERNSEY
Hiya… I can’t believe it that you’ve set up your own area to ‘Think Out Loud…’ I honestly think it’s brilliant and fresh to see you explore the boundaries. In fact I just stumbled on this and can’t believe that you will actually read something that I have written – how weird that feels!
but in a good way!
I’ve seen many of your Docs over the years an only have admiration for all the topics you’ve chosen to challenge, most moving was about your mother and breast cancer… my mum was one of three sisters who survived this grave illness and is fighting fitter today.
Please keep up the challenges and new projects… and BTW, love your new hair colour.. and style
Take care
Have just discovered your website. Love your documentaries, so will enjoy your blog, no doubt.
Just saw your “Extreme Wife” Doco (on Australian TV). Job well done. Your film was made with such direct humanity – no pretentious worthiness or manipulative insincerity. A very welcome breath of fresh. And, you are quite lovely.
Look forward to seeing and reading more. Tim
Hi Dawn.
Just watched your ‘Brides from Odessa’ show. Pure TV gold! You are undoubtedly the Mistress of understated revelations from the underbelly of society. Louis Theroux, eat your heart out!!! Keep it up Gorgeous! x
I think you are just so lovely! You interview people with such
kindness and honesty. And you are very sweet.
Its refreshing.
Yay you`ve got a blog; bookmarking now…miss you on TV though
CC x
keep writting hotpatootie!!xx
Firstly I think I love you. Ok fancy you. Well both maybe. You decide.
Anyway carry on wih the writing. I approve.
Normally I never do silly things like this and leave comments but “there’s something about Dawn” …. I kind of feel like a puppy dog, and anything that Dawn posts or talks about I am instantly interested in (alot of in’s there, apologies) eg I have bought and repurchased (many times) Kleenex Washlets because Dawn promoted them, and I found myself ordering ‘Room’ this evening when she recommended it. I would also pre order Renee and Flo now given half the chance although I think that would be a little too eager. Dawn, I just want to say I am a massive fan of your work so keep it up. Good choosing by the way with Chris, I’m very happy you are going to be part Irish now
enjoy all the preparations xx Lols xx
GOSH..thanks so much that was a really lovely message x x
